My name is Tori.
It’s nice to meet you!

By now you have probably seen a few pictures on my blog, and you’re wondering why I’m in a wheelchair. The short answer is that I was born with a rare neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which makes my muscles get weaker over time. At this point in my life, I have very limited physical function left, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t live an incredibly fulfilling life. I like to spend my free time exploring new places, eating at new restaurants, grabbing drinks with friends, and giving my nephews all the snuggles.

In addition to the above, I have always had a huge passion for traveling. My parents took my sisters and I on so many family vacations growing up, but it wasn’t until April 2018 — when my friend and I travelled to London and Paris — that I realized that travelling the world wasn’t something I wanted to do, but actually needed to do. It is truly an eye opening experience to be able to visit new places, experience different cultures, and spend time a little out of your comfort zone (something that I admittedly find very challenging to do). As a disabled person especially, travelling gives me a massive sense of freedom and escape from the rigorous day-to-day routine I often have to follow at home. Since my trip to London, I have been travelling non-stop and exploring places I never would have thought of before, including some right in my own backyard!

Ultimately, I wanted to start this platform to demonstrate that living remarkably is not limited to the able-bodied existence. I’ve been guilty of following so many bloggers and thinking that the places they visit or the things they do are so luxurious and amazing, but that I could never experience that because I use a wheelchair. But what I’ve learned over the past little while is that this is entirely false — the ability to live abundantly is not limited to one type of person or Instagram account; it is entirely a state of mind that you have within YOU.

Throughout this blog, I hope to be able to add disabled representation in the travel & lifestyle space while simultaneously sharing some of the most incredible (and perhaps unexpected) ways to travel the world in a wheelchair. At the end of the day, I know the world isn’t going to be all that accessible to me, but that’s okay because I will find a way to make it work and I’m excited to take you along on the journey.

See you around!

xoxo,

Tori
